The principal objective of the AHKRC is to promote a macro and micro level understanding of the causes and processes of change in the rural areas of the south in general and of Pakistan in particular with the purpose of promoting the use of this understanding for developing and/or supporting rural development initiatives and programmes; influencing government, donor, media and NGO policies; and for facilitating the necessary human resource development to make this possible.

 To fulfil its objectives the AHKRC will:

Collect and consolidate all existing material and knowledge on rural development and related issues, make it available for use and transform it into learning material

Maintain a library with all relevant political, socio-economic, anthropological and technical literature and publications
 

bullet

Carry out and fund research, documentation and publication on all rural development related issues
 

bullet

Arrange lectures and forums on rural development related issues that impact on all aspects of policy so as to create, nurture and subsequently institutionalise a space for interaction between the various actors of the development drama in Pakistan

Develop a working relationship with the media to promote the work and concepts of the Resource Centre and its partners in a manner that creates a better understanding of development issues in the various actors involved in projects, financial and policy issues

Develop and/or operate academic and technical courses independently or in association with universities, technical institutions, NGOs and AHKRC partners so as to develop appropriate human resources for fulfilling the principal objective of the AHKRC
 

bullet

Employ persons, access finances from various sources, develop an endowment fund and do whatever is required to make the principal objective possible.
